Libya offers a unique appeal for some Eritreans, featuring diverse landscapes, rich historical sites, and a beautiful Mediterranean coastline. However, its tourism infrastructure is still developing, which may limit the overall attractiveness for visitors.
Libya's safety for tourists, including those from Eritrea, is a complex issue. According to the Global Peace Index, Libya ranks 126th out of 160 countries, which is slightly better than Eritrea's rank of 134th. However, crime statistics from the Global Organized Crime Index indicate significant challenges in Libya, particularly with organized crime and human trafficking. For instance, Libya scores 8.0 for mafia groups and 9.5 for human trafficking, while Eritrea scores 1.0 and 9.0, respectively. In terms of crime networks, Libya has a score of 7.5 compared to Eritrea's 5.5. Although Libya may be marginally safer overall, the presence of organized crime and the risks associated with travel should be carefully considered by potential tourists. In summary, while Libya is ranked slightly safer than Eritrea, the high levels of organized crime and other safety concerns suggest that caution is advised for tourists.
