Libya offers a unique appeal for some Cameroonians, featuring diverse landscapes, rich historical sites, and a beautiful Mediterranean coastline. However, its tourism infrastructure is still developing, which may limit its attractiveness for the broader population of 28 million in Cameroon.
Libya presents a complex safety situation for tourists, including those from Cameroon. According to the Global Peace Index, Libya ranks 126th out of 160 countries, which is slightly safer than Cameroon at 135th. However, specific crime statistics indicate notable concerns. Cameroon's murder rate is 4.5 per 100,000 people, while data for Libya is not available. The Global Organized Crime Index reveals that Libya has higher scores in areas such as mafia groups (8.0), state crime (8.5), and human trafficking (9.5), indicating a more significant presence of organized crime compared to Cameroon. In summary, while Libya may be marginally safer than Cameroon based on the Global Peace Index, the higher levels of organized crime and specific crime concerns suggest that tourists should exercise caution and stay informed about the current situation before traveling.
