Latvia offers a compelling destination for some Moldovan visitors, thanks to its rich culture and natural beauty. With a strong tourism infrastructure and a strategic location in Eastern Europe, it stands out in the global tourism market. Annually, around 200,000 Moldovans travel abroad, and a portion of them may find Latvia appealing.
Latvia is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Moldova. It ranks 25th out of 40 countries in terms of safety while walking alone at night, which is better than Moldova's ranking of 33rd. According to the Global Peace Index, Latvia is ranked 30th out of 160 countries, indicating a relatively safe environment compared to Moldova, which ranks 61st. In terms of crime statistics, Latvia has a murder rate of 3.0 per 100,000 people, slightly higher than Moldova's rate of 2.3. However, Latvia shows lower indices for organized crime, particularly in areas like state crime (Latvia 2.0 vs. Moldova 7.0) and human trafficking (Latvia 4.5 vs. Moldova 7.5). Overall, while both countries have their challenges, Latvia offers a safer experience for tourists compared to Moldova.
