Latvia offers a compelling destination for some Belarusian visitors, thanks to its rich culture and natural beauty. With a strong tourism infrastructure and a strategic location in Eastern Europe, it attracts a portion of the 500,000 Belarusians who travel abroad annually.
Latvia is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those coming from Belarus. In terms of safety while walking alone at night, Latvia ranks 25th out of 40 countries, compared to Belarus, which ranks 38th. According to the Global Peace Index, Latvia is ranked 30th out of 160 countries, significantly safer than Belarus, which is ranked 110th. When looking at murder rates, Latvia has a rate of 3.0 per 100,000 people, slightly higher than Belarus's rate of 2.4. However, regarding organized crime, Latvia performs better in several categories, such as state crime (Latvia 2.0 vs. Belarus 9.0) and various trafficking indices. Overall, while no destination is without risk, Latvia presents a safer environment for tourists compared to Belarus.
