Lithuania is a vibrant destination in the Baltic region, offering a unique array of attractions for international visitors. While it may not attract the same number of tourists as larger European countries, it could appeal to some of the 100,000 Mauritians who travel abroad annually.
Lithuania is generally considered a safe destination for tourists. It ranks 24th out of 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night. According to the Global Peace Index, it is ranked 31st out of 160 countries, indicating a relatively safe environment, though slightly less safe than Mauritius, which ranks 22nd. In terms of murder rates, both countries have the same rate of 2.6 per 100,000 people. However, Mauritius has a lower female murder rate (1.8) compared to Lithuania (1.5). When examining organized crime, Mauritius generally scores better than Lithuania in several categories, with lower indices for mafia groups (2.0 vs. 3.5) and human trafficking (4.5 vs. 3.5). Overall, while both countries have their safety concerns, Lithuania is considered safe for tourists, but travelers should remain vigilant as they would in any foreign country.
