Lesotho is an intriguing destination for some Belgian travelers, thanks to its stunning mountainous landscapes and unique charm as "The Kingdom in the Sky." With 8.6 million Belgians traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Lesotho appealing for its distinctive natural beauty and cultural experiences.
Lesotho presents a higher safety risk for tourists compared to Belgium. According to the Global Peace Index, Lesotho is ranked 123rd out of 160 countries, while Belgium ranks significantly higher at 16th. The murder rate in Lesotho is notably high at 43.6 per 100,000 people, compared to Belgium's low rate of 1.1. Additionally, crime indices indicate that Lesotho faces challenges with organized crime, with a higher prevalence of crime networks and state crime compared to Belgium. Tourists from Belgium should exercise caution and stay informed about local conditions when considering travel to Lesotho.
