Liberia is an emerging tourism destination in West Africa, showcasing its potential to attract international visitors. Although tourism revenue is currently modest, it plays a unique role in Liberia's economy and offers opportunities for cultural exchange. This makes it an appealing option for a segment of Uganda's 47 million population.
Liberia is generally considered a relatively safe destination for tourists, especially when compared to Uganda. According to the Global Peace Index, Liberia ranks 67th out of 160 countries, while Uganda is ranked 124th. In terms of crime statistics, Liberia has a lower murder rate at 3.3 per 100,000 people, compared to Uganda's 8.5. The Global Organized Crime Index also indicates that Liberia has lower scores in several crime categories, suggesting a less severe crime environment overall. For example, Liberia scores 3.0 for mafia groups and 6.0 for crime networks, while Uganda scores higher in these areas. While no destination is without risks, tourists from Uganda may find Liberia to be a safer option for travel.
