Sri Lanka is an appealing travel destination for some Ukrainian visitors, thanks to its rich cultural heritage and beautiful landscapes. The island's tropical beaches and UNESCO World Heritage Sites attract international tourists, and with 11 million Ukrainians traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Sri Lanka to be an interesting option.
Sri Lanka is generally considered safer for tourists compared to Ukraine. According to the Global Peace Index, Sri Lanka ranks 99th out of 160 countries, while Ukraine is ranked 156th. In terms of murder rates, Sri Lanka has a rate of 3.5 per 100,000 people, slightly lower than Ukraine's rate of 3.8. When looking at organized crime indices, Sri Lanka scores better in several categories, such as mafia groups (4.0 vs. 6.0 for Ukraine) and crime networks (5.0 vs. 7.0). Although there are areas of concern, such as higher female murder rates in Sri Lanka (2.2 compared to 1.9 in Ukraine), overall, the crime landscape appears less severe in Sri Lanka. In summary, while no destination is without risks, Sri Lanka is relatively safer for tourists from Ukraine based on various crime and safety metrics.
