Sri Lanka is an appealing travel destination for some Syrians, thanks to its rich cultural heritage, beautiful landscapes, tropical beaches, and UNESCO World Heritage Sites. While it attracts a modest number of international visitors, it offers unique experiences that may resonate with a segment of Syria's population of 21 million.
Sri Lanka is relatively safer for tourists compared to Syria. According to the Global Peace Index, Sri Lanka ranks 99th out of 160 countries, while Syria is ranked 153rd. In terms of murder rates, Sri Lanka has a rate of 3.5 per 100,000 people, slightly higher than Syria's 2.2. However, when considering organized crime, Sri Lanka generally has lower indices than Syria across various categories, indicating a less severe crime environment. For example, Sri Lanka scores better in foreign crime (2.5 vs. 7.0) and human trafficking (5.5 vs. 8.5). Overall, while no destination is without risks, Sri Lanka presents a safer option for tourists from Syria.
