Sri Lanka is an appealing travel destination for some Singaporean visitors, thanks to its rich cultural heritage, lush landscapes, and tropical beaches. With around 800,000 Singaporeans traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Sri Lanka's UNESCO World Heritage Sites and unique offerings attractive.
Sri Lanka's safety for tourists, particularly those coming from Singapore, is relatively moderate. According to the Global Peace Index, Sri Lanka ranks 99th out of 160 countries, significantly lower than Singapore, which ranks 5th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Sri Lanka is 3.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Singapore's exceptionally low rate of 0.1. Female murder rates also reflect this trend, with Sri Lanka at 2.2 and Singapore at 0.1. The Global Organized Crime Index indicates that while Singapore has lower scores across various crime categories, Sri Lanka shows higher vulnerability, particularly in state crime (7.0) and human smuggling (6.0). Overall, while Sri Lanka is a popular tourist destination, visitors should remain aware of their surroundings and take standard safety precautions.
