Head of mission: Ms Maria Irene Mateus Soares Schultze, Honorary Consul (as of 2023)
Lebanon offers a unique blend of cultural heritage, beautiful landscapes, and modern attractions, making it an appealing destination for some Portuguese travelers. With 1 million Portuguese traveling abroad annually, there is potential interest in exploring Lebanon's rich history and vibrant social scene, despite recent fluctuations in tourist numbers.
Lebanon's safety for tourists, including those from Portugal, is a concern. While Portugal ranks 7th in the Global Peace Index and has a low murder rate of 0.8 per 100,000 people, Lebanon is ranked 132nd out of 160 countries, with a higher murder rate of 1.9. Additionally, various crime indices indicate that Lebanon faces challenges with organized crime, scoring worse than Portugal in categories such as state crime (Lebanon 9.5 vs. Portugal 4.5) and human trafficking (Lebanon 8.5 vs. Portugal 4.5). Overall, while many tourists visit Lebanon, it is advisable for those coming from Portugal to exercise caution and stay informed about the local situation.
