Lebanon offers a unique blend of rich cultural heritage, beautiful natural landscapes, and modern attractions, making it an appealing destination for some Belgian travelers. Despite recent fluctuations in tourism, the country's historical significance and vibrant social scene continue to attract international visitors. With 8.6 million Belgians traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Lebanon an interesting option.
Lebanon's safety for tourists, including those from Belgium, presents some concerns. While Belgium ranks 16th in the Global Peace Index, Lebanon is significantly lower at 132nd out of 160 countries. In terms of crime statistics, Belgium has a murder rate of 1.1 per 100,000 people, whereas Lebanon's rate is higher at 1.9. Additionally, female murder rates are notably different, with Belgium at 0.2 and Lebanon at 1.0. When examining organized crime, Belgium generally scores better across various indices, such as mafia presence (Belgium 3.0 vs. Lebanon 6.0) and state crime (Belgium 2.0 vs. Lebanon 9.5). Overall, while many tourists visit Lebanon safely, it is advisable for travelers from Belgium to stay informed about local conditions and exercise caution.
