Frequently asked questions

How attractive is North Korea as a destination for visitors from Russia?

North Korea offers a unique and intriguing experience for travelers, marked by its tightly regulated attractions. While the accommodation options are limited and lack luxury, they possess a distinctive charm reflective of the country's hospitality. Given that 12.4 million Russians travel abroad annually, a segment of them may find North Korea an appealing destination.

Please answer the following question: How safe is North Korea for tourists coming from Russia?

North Korea's safety for tourists, including those from Russia, presents a complex picture. While there is no specific data on safety for tourists in North Korea, the country ranks 149th out of 160 in the Global Peace Index, indicating a high level of risk. In comparison, Russia ranks 154th. Crime statistics show that Russia has a murder rate of 6.8 per 100,000 people, while data for North Korea is unavailable. In terms of organized crime, North Korea scores lower on indices related to mafia groups and crime networks, suggesting less organized crime presence, but it scores poorly on state crime and human trafficking. Overall, while North Korea may appear to have lower organized crime levels, its high ranking in the Global Peace Index and lack of comprehensive safety data suggest that tourists should exercise caution when considering travel to North Korea.
