Jordan offers a unique blend of stunning landscapes and rich history, making it an appealing destination for international tourists. Its iconic sites, like Petra and the Dead Sea, attract travelers from various backgrounds. Given that around 300,000 Sri Lankans travel abroad annually, a portion of them may find Jordan to be an intriguing option.
Jordan is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Sri Lanka. According to the Global Peace Index, Jordan ranks 65th out of 160 countries, which is notably better than Sri Lanka's ranking of 99th. In terms of safety statistics, the murder rate in Jordan is significantly lower at 1.0 per 100,000 people compared to Sri Lanka's 3.5. Additionally, female murder rates are also lower in Jordan (0.6) than in Sri Lanka (2.2). When examining organized crime, Jordan shows a lower risk in several areas. For instance, the mafia group index is 1.5 for Jordan versus 4.0 for Sri Lanka, indicating a safer environment. However, Jordan does have higher indices for crime networks (7.0) and human trafficking (6.5) compared to Sri Lanka (5.0 and 5.5, respectively). Overall, while no destination is without risks, Jordan presents a relatively safer environment for tourists compared to Sri Lanka.
