Italy is an appealing destination for some travelers from Nepal due to its rich history, culture, and iconic cities like Rome, Venice, and Florence. With 1.2 million Nepalese traveling abroad annually, a portion of these visitors may find Italy particularly attractive.
Italy is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from Nepal. According to the Global Peace Index, Italy ranks 33rd out of 160 countries, indicating a relatively safe environment, especially when compared to Nepal, which ranks 78th. In terms of crime statistics, Italy has a lower murder rate of 0.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Nepal's 2.1. While Italy faces challenges with organized crime, reflected in a higher mafia index (9.0 for Italy versus 4.5 for Nepal), it has a lower crime network index (3.0 for Italy versus 6.5 for Nepal), suggesting that certain types of organized crime are more prevalent in Italy. Overall, while there are some safety concerns, Italy is generally safer than Nepal for tourists, particularly regarding violent crime. Travelers should remain aware of their surroundings and take standard safety precautions.
