Iran offers a compelling appeal for visitors from Tajikistan due to its rich history and diverse landscapes. Although the overall number of foreign tourists is modest, the country is undergoing a period of tourism development and adaptation. A segment of Tajikistan's population, which numbers around 10 million, may find Iran particularly attractive as a travel destination.
Iran's safety for tourists coming from Tajikistan can be assessed through various indices and crime statistics. According to the Global Peace Index, Iran ranks 131st out of 160 countries, indicating a lower level of safety compared to Tajikistan, which ranks 69th. In terms of murder rates, Tajikistan has a significantly lower rate at 0.9 per 100,000 people, while Iran's rate is 2.2. Female murder rates also reflect this trend, with Tajikistan at 0.2 and Iran at 0.6. The Global Organized Crime Index further illustrates the differences, with Iran scoring worse in several categories: mafia groups (7.0), crime networks (7.5), and state crime (9.5), compared to Tajikistan's scores of 5.5, 5.0, and 9.0, respectively. Overall, while Iran has a rich cultural heritage and many attractions, tourists from Tajikistan should be aware that it may not be as safe as their home country, based on these statistics.
