Iran offers a unique appeal for Omani travelers due to its rich history and diverse landscapes. While the volume of foreign visitors is relatively modest, the country's tourism sector is undergoing adjustments, reflecting evolving trends. Given that 1.1 million Omanis travel abroad annually, a portion of them may find Iran an intriguing destination worth exploring.
Iran presents certain safety concerns for tourists, particularly when compared to Oman. According to the Global Peace Index, Iran ranks 131st out of 160 countries, indicating a lower safety level than Oman, which ranks 37th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Iran is 2.2 per 100,000 people, significantly higher than Oman's rate of 0.2. Additionally, various organized crime indices reveal that Iran faces challenges with organized crime, scoring higher on several metrics compared to Oman. For instance, Iran scores 7.0 for mafia groups and 9.5 for state crime, while Oman scores 1.0 and 4.0, respectively. Overall, while many tourists visit Iran without incident, travelers from Oman should remain aware of these safety statistics and exercise caution during their visit.
