Iran offers a rich historical and diverse landscape, making it an appealing destination for some travelers from Nepal. Although foreign arrivals are modest, the country's tourism sector is adapting to changing trends. With 1.2 million Nepalese traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Iran an intriguing option to explore.
Iran's safety for tourists from Nepal can be evaluated through various indices. According to the Global Peace Index, Iran ranks 131st out of 160 countries, indicating a lower safety level compared to Nepal, which ranks 78th. The murder rates are similar, with Nepal at 2.1 per 100,000 people and Iran at 2.2. However, organized crime indices suggest more significant concerns in Iran. For instance, Iran scores higher in state crime (9.5) and heroin trade (9.0) compared to Nepal. Overall, while both countries have similar murder rates, the higher organized crime indices in Iran may pose additional risks for tourists. Therefore, while it is possible to visit Iran, travelers should exercise caution and stay informed about local conditions.
