Iran offers a unique appeal for German travelers due to its rich history and diverse landscapes. Although the country sees a relatively low number of foreign visitors, its tourism sector is evolving. Given that 99.5 million Germans travel abroad annually, a segment of them may find Iran an intriguing destination.
Iran's safety for tourists, particularly those coming from Germany, can be assessed through various metrics. While Germany ranks 20th in the Global Peace Index, indicating a relatively high level of safety, Iran is ranked 131st out of 160 countries, suggesting a lower safety level. In terms of crime statistics, Germany has a murder rate of 0.8 per 100,000 people, while Iran's rate is higher at 2.2. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index shows that Iran scores worse than Germany in several categories, including organized crime (Iran: 7.0 vs. Germany: 5.0) and state crime (Iran: 9.5 vs. Germany: 2.0). Overall, while many travelers visit Iran without issues, the country is generally considered less safe than Germany, and tourists should exercise caution and stay informed about their surroundings.
