Iran offers a rich historical and diverse landscape, making it an intriguing destination for some Bruneians. Although the country has seen a modest number of foreign visitors and is undergoing tourism development adjustments, it still holds appeal for a segment of Brunei's population.
Iran's safety for tourists from Brunei can be assessed through various crime statistics. The Global Peace Index ranks Iran 131st out of 160 countries, indicating a relatively low level of peace. In terms of homicide rates, Iran has a murder rate of 2.2 per 100,000 people, compared to Brunei's very low rate of 0.5. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index reveals significant differences in crime levels: Iran scores poorly on several indices, with a mafia group index of 7.0 and a state crime index of 9.5, while Brunei scores much better, with a mafia index of 1.0. Overall, while tourists can visit Iran, they should remain cautious and informed about the local safety conditions, as the crime rates and organized crime indices suggest a higher risk compared to Brunei.
