Iran offers a compelling experience for tourists, featuring a rich history and diverse landscapes. While the country has seen fluctuations in foreign arrivals, it remains an intriguing option for some Bahraini travelers. With around 500,000 Bahrainis traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Iran appealing as a destination.
Iran presents certain safety concerns for tourists, particularly when compared to Bahrain. According to the Global Peace Index, Iran is ranked 131st out of 160 countries, while Bahrain is ranked 79th, indicating that Iran is generally less safe. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Iran is 2.2 per 100,000 people, compared to just 0.1 in Bahrain. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index highlights significant differences: Iran scores higher in various categories of organized crime, including mafia groups (7.0), state crime (9.5), and the heroin trade (9.0), whereas Bahrain scores much lower across these indices. Overall, while many tourists visit Iran without incident, it is advisable for travelers from Bahrain to be aware of these safety concerns and to exercise caution.
