Iraq offers a unique appeal for visitors from Vietnam, showcasing a blend of ancient history and cultural heritage, including sites like Babylonian ruins and the scenic Mesopotamian plains. While it has potential as a travel destination, it may primarily attract a specific segment of Vietnam's 98 million population.
Iraq is generally considered less safe for tourists compared to Viet Nam. According to the Global Peace Index, Iraq ranks 148th out of 160 countries, while Viet Nam is ranked 41st. The murder rate in Iraq is significantly higher, at 10.1 per 100,000 people, compared to Viet Nam's rate of 1.5. Additionally, various crime indices indicate higher levels of organized crime and state-related crime in Iraq. For example, Iraq scores worse in categories such as state crime (8.0) and foreign crime (9.0) compared to Viet Nam, which scores 7.0 and 6.0 respectively. Overall, tourists from Viet Nam should exercise caution and thoroughly research travel advisories before considering a trip to Iraq.
