Ireland is an appealing destination for some Portuguese travelers, thanks to its stunning landscapes and rich culture. Annually, around 1 million Portuguese travel abroad, and a portion of them may find Ireland's lush countryside, historic sites, and unique lifestyle attractive.
Ireland is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from Portugal. While it ranks 35th out of 40 countries for safety while walking alone at night, Portugal is safer at 15th. However, according to the Global Peace Index, Ireland is ranked 2nd out of 160 countries, indicating a high level of overall safety, comparable to Portugal's 7th place. In terms of murder rates, Ireland has a lower rate (0.4 per 100,000) compared to Portugal (0.8), which suggests a relatively low risk for violent crime. Regarding organized crime, Portugal generally performs better across various indices, but Ireland still maintains a moderate level of safety with specific areas of concern, such as drug trafficking. Overall, while there are some differences in safety rankings, Ireland remains a safe destination for tourists.
