Haiti offers a unique appeal for some Senegalese travelers, thanks to its vibrant culture and rich history. However, the country's tourism has seen stagnant foreign visitor numbers recently, making its overall attractiveness as a destination somewhat mixed. While it may attract a segment of Senegal's 17 million population, it remains a complex choice within the global tourism landscape.
Haiti is generally considered less safe for tourists compared to Senegal. According to the Global Peace Index, Haiti ranks 141st out of 160 countries, while Senegal ranks 82nd. The murder rate in Haiti is significantly higher at 13.0 per 100,000 people, compared to Senegal's low rate of 0.3. Additionally, various crime indices indicate that Haiti faces more challenges with organized crime, including higher scores for mafia groups (8.0) and crime networks (6.0) compared to Senegal (2.5 and 5.5, respectively). Given these statistics, tourists from Senegal should exercise caution when considering travel to Haiti.
