Haiti offers a unique blend of vibrant culture and rich history, making it an intriguing option for some travelers from the Philippines. Although foreign tourist arrivals have stabilized in recent years, there is potential for interest among the 1.5 million Filipinos who travel abroad annually. Some of these travelers may find Haiti appealing as a destination.
Haiti is generally considered less safe for tourists compared to the Philippines. According to the Global Peace Index, Haiti ranks 141st out of 160 countries, while the Philippines ranks 102nd. The murder rate in Haiti is significantly higher, at 13.0 per 100,000 people, compared to the Philippines' rate of 4.4. Additionally, female murder rates are also higher in Haiti (1.9) than in the Philippines (0.8). In terms of organized crime, both countries have similar scores for mafia groups (8.0), but Haiti has a lower score for foreign crime (3.0), indicating a higher risk in that area. Other crime-related indices show that Haiti faces challenges in various categories, including drug trafficking and human smuggling. Overall, tourists from the Philippines should exercise caution and stay informed about the security situation when considering travel to Haiti.
