Guatemala offers a unique blend of cultural richness and geographical diversity, making it an intriguing destination for some Bangladeshi travelers. Its renowned Mayan sites, such as Tikal, and the colonial architecture of Antigua attract cultural explorers interested in ancient civilizations. While the overall number of foreign visitors is moderate, there is potential appeal for a segment of Bangladesh's population of 171 million.
Guatemala presents certain safety concerns for tourists, including those from Bangladesh. According to the Global Peace Index, Guatemala is ranked 115th out of 160 countries, which is lower than Bangladesh's ranking of 91st. The murder rate in Guatemala is significantly higher, at 20.0 per 100,000 people, compared to Bangladesh's rate of 2.4. Additionally, Guatemala has higher indices for organized crime, with mafia groups and crime networks rated at 7.5 and 6.0, respectively, compared to Bangladesh's ratings of 5.5. While many tourists visit Guatemala without incident, it is advisable for travelers to stay informed about local conditions, exercise caution, and follow safety guidelines.
