Greece stands out as an appealing destination for Indian travelers, thanks to its rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and beautiful islands. With 8.6 million Indians traveling internationally each year, a portion of these visitors may find Greece particularly attractive for its blend of ancient history and modern charm.
Greece is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from India. According to the Global Peace Index, Greece ranks 40th out of 160 countries, indicating a relatively high level of safety compared to India, which ranks 114th. In terms of crime statistics, Greece has a lower murder rate of 0.9 per 100,000 people, compared to India's rate of 2.9. Additionally, Greece performs better in various organized crime indices, with lower scores in areas such as mafia groups, arms trafficking, and environmental crimes. While Greece ranks 32nd among 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night, overall, it remains a safer destination than India based on the available data. Tourists are advised to exercise standard precautions, as they would in any country.
