Guinea presents a unique tourism experience for visitors from Sierra Leone, characterized by its diverse natural landscapes and vibrant cultures. Although it ranks lower in global tourism receipts, its distinct offerings and authentic experiences may appeal to some Sierra Leoneans. With around 100,000 Sierra Leoneans traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Guinea an attractive destination.
Guinea's safety for tourists coming from Sierra Leone is a concern. According to the Global Peace Index, Guinea ranks 122nd out of 160 countries, significantly lower than Sierra Leone, which ranks 64th. While specific murder rates for Guinea are not available, Sierra Leone has a low murder rate of 2.1 per 100,000 people. In terms of organized crime, Sierra Leone generally fares better across various indices. For example, mafia groups score 3.5 in Sierra Leone compared to 1.0 in Guinea, indicating a higher presence of organized crime in Guinea. Other crime indices also show that Sierra Leone has lower scores in state crime (7.0 vs. 8.0 in Guinea) and human trafficking (5.0 vs. 7.0 in Guinea). Overall, while both countries face challenges related to crime, Sierra Leone appears to be a safer destination for tourists compared to Guinea.
