Guinea presents a unique tourism experience with its diverse natural landscapes and vibrant cultures, making it an intriguing destination for some Ethiopians. Although it ranks lower in global tourism receipts, its authentic offerings may appeal to a segment of Ethiopia's population of 123 million.
Guinea's safety for tourists from Ethiopia can be assessed through various indices. According to the Global Peace Index, Guinea is ranked 122nd out of 160 countries, which is better than Ethiopia's ranking of 142nd. While specific murder rates for Guinea are not available, Ethiopia has a murder rate of 8.8 per 100,000 people. In terms of organized crime, both countries have challenges, but Guinea generally shows lower scores in some areas. For instance, on a scale from 1 (best) to 10 (worst), Guinea scores 1.0 for mafia groups compared to Ethiopia's 2.0. However, Guinea has higher scores in state crime (8.0) and foreign crime (7.0) than Ethiopia. Overall, while Guinea may be somewhat safer than Ethiopia in certain respects, tourists should remain vigilant and informed about local conditions and risks.
