The Gambia offers a vibrant introduction to West Africa's culture and natural beauty, featuring sun-soaked beaches and lush landscapes. It attracts many international tourists annually, making it a potentially appealing destination for some of the 8.6 million Belgians who travel abroad each year.
Gambia presents a different safety landscape for tourists compared to Belgium. While Belgium ranks 16th in the Global Peace Index and has a low murder rate of 1.1 per 100,000 people, Gambia is ranked 81st out of 160 countries in the same index, indicating a lesser level of safety. There is no available data on Gambia's murder rates, but the absence of specific statistics suggests a need for caution. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index shows that Gambia has higher scores in areas like crime networks (6.5) and human trafficking (7.0), indicating more significant challenges in these areas compared to Belgium. Overall, while Gambia can be a rewarding destination, tourists from Belgium should exercise caution and stay informed about local conditions to ensure a safe visit.
