The United Kingdom is a prominent and diverse destination for international tourism, celebrated for its extensive history, culture, and natural beauty. Although there has been a recent decline in visitor numbers, the country still attracts considerable international interest, reflected in its substantial tourist revenue. A portion of the 800,000 Singaporeans who travel abroad annually may find the UK appealing as a travel destination.
The United Kingdom is generally considered a safe destination for tourists, including those from Singapore. It ranks 34th out of 160 countries on the Global Peace Index, indicating a relatively peaceful environment. However, when it comes to safety while walking alone at night, the UK ranks 37th among 40 European countries, which suggests some caution is advisable. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in the UK is 1.0 per 100,000 people, compared to Singapore's very low rate of 0.1. Additionally, various organized crime indices show that Singapore generally has lower levels of crime and organized crime activity than the UK. Overall, while the UK is safe for tourists, visitors should remain aware of their surroundings, especially at night, and take standard safety precautions.
