Gabon offers a unique blend of natural beauty and emerging cultural attractions, making it an intriguing option for some Belgian travelers. With 8.6 million Belgians traveling abroad annually, a segment may find Gabon appealing despite its status as a lesser-known destination in Central Africa.
Gabon presents certain safety concerns for tourists coming from Belgium. While Belgium ranks 16th in the Global Peace Index, Gabon is significantly lower at 116th out of 160 countries. Although specific crime data for Gabon is limited, Belgium has a low murder rate of 1.1 per 100,000 people, while Gabon's statistics are not available. In terms of organized crime, Belgium generally fares better, with lower indices across various categories, such as mafia presence (Belgium 3.0 vs. Gabon 1.0) and state crime (Belgium 2.0 vs. Gabon 8.0). This suggests that Gabon may have higher risks associated with crime and safety compared to Belgium. Overall, while Gabon can be visited by tourists, it is advisable to exercise caution and stay informed about local conditions.
