France is a top global tourism destination, attracting millions of visitors annually. Its vibrant culture and diverse offerings make it appealing, particularly to a segment of Zambia's 20 million population.
France is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from Zambia. However, it ranks 40th among 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night, and the Global Peace Index places it 84th out of 160 countries. In contrast, Zambia ranks 55th, indicating it is perceived as safer overall. In terms of crime statistics, Zambia has a higher murder rate of 5.4 per 100,000 people compared to France's 1.1. France also reports a lower female murder rate at 0.7. When looking at organized crime, Zambia has lower indices in several categories, such as mafia groups (3.0 vs. 6.0 in France) and human trafficking (5.0 vs. 6.0 in France). However, France has a better score for state crime (3.0 vs. 6.0 in Zambia). Overall, while France has some safety concerns, it is relatively safe for tourists, and visitors should exercise standard precautions as they would in any country.
