France is a top global tourism destination, attracting millions annually. It appeals to many Dutch travelers, with 22.1 million Dutch citizens traveling abroad each year, indicating a significant potential interest in visiting France.
France is generally safe for tourists, but it has some safety concerns compared to the Netherlands. In terms of safety while walking alone at night, France ranks 40th out of 40 countries, whereas the Netherlands ranks 9th. According to the Global Peace Index, France is ranked 84th out of 160 countries, compared to the Netherlands at 18th. Crime statistics indicate that the murder rate in France is 1.1 per 100,000 people, higher than the Netherlands' rate of 0.7. Additionally, various organized crime indices show that France has higher scores (indicating worse conditions) in areas such as mafia presence, crime networks, and human trafficking compared to the Netherlands. While France offers rich cultural experiences, tourists should remain aware of their surroundings and take standard safety precautions.
