Fiji is a highly appealing destination for Australians, thanks to its stunning natural beauty and rich cultural experiences. With around 300,000 Australians traveling internationally each year, a significant number are likely to consider Fiji for their vacation.
Fiji is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from Australia. However, it's important to note some differences in crime statistics. According to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, Fiji has a higher murder rate (2.2 per 100,000 people) compared to Australia (0.7). Additionally, female murder rates in Fiji are notably higher (2.8) than in Australia (0.4). In terms of organized crime, Fiji scores better in mafia presence (1.0) compared to Australia (5.0), but has similar or higher scores in other areas, such as crime networks (6.5 for Fiji vs. 6.0 for Australia) and human trafficking (5.0 for Fiji vs. 3.5 for Australia). Overall, while Fiji is a popular tourist destination with many safe areas, travelers should remain aware of their surroundings and take standard safety precautions.
