Head of mission: Mr Chanin Yensudchai, Honorary Consul (as of 2024)
Ethiopia offers a unique appeal for Thai visitors due to its rich cultural heritage and historical sites. The country's diverse tourism options, including cultural, adventure, and business tourism, create an evolving landscape that can attract some of the 10.4 million Thais who travel abroad annually.
Ethiopia's safety for tourists, particularly those coming from Thailand, is a concern. The Global Peace Index ranks Ethiopia 142nd out of 160 countries, significantly lower than Thailand, which is ranked 73rd. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Ethiopia is 8.8 per 100,000 people, compared to Thailand's 4.9. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index indicates that while both countries face organized crime, Ethiopia has higher indices in areas such as crime networks (6.5) compared to Thailand (5.0). Overall, while tourism is possible in Ethiopia, travelers should remain vigilant and informed about local conditions and safety precautions.
