Ethiopia offers a unique blend of rich culture and historical sites, making it an intriguing destination for some French travelers. With 13.7 million French citizens traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Ethiopia appealing for its diverse tourism options, including cultural, adventure, and business experiences.
Ethiopia's safety for tourists, especially those coming from France, presents some concerns. While France ranks 84th in the Global Peace Index, Ethiopia is significantly lower at 142nd out of 160 countries. The murder rate in Ethiopia is notably higher at 8.8 per 100,000 people compared to France's 1.1. In terms of organized crime, Ethiopia has a mixed profile: while it scores better in mafia presence (2.0 vs. France's 6.0), it has similar scores for crime networks (6.5) and higher scores for state crime (4.0 vs. France's 3.0). Overall, while Ethiopia has unique cultural and historical attractions, tourists should exercise caution and stay informed about local conditions.
