Ethiopia offers a compelling mix of cultural heritage and historical sites, making it an appealing destination for some of Eritrea's 4 million residents. The country's diverse tourism options, including cultural, adventure, and business experiences, enhance its attractiveness for visitors from Eritrea.
Ethiopia's safety for tourists, including those from Eritrea, is a nuanced topic. According to the Global Peace Index, Ethiopia ranks 142nd out of 160 countries, indicating a challenging security environment compared to Eritrea, which ranks 134th. The murder rate in Ethiopia is reported at 8.8 per 100,000 people, while data for Eritrea is not available. In terms of organized crime, both countries face challenges, but Ethiopia has higher indices for crime networks and human trafficking. For instance, Ethiopia scores 6.5 for crime networks and 6.0 for human trafficking, while Eritrea scores lower in these areas. Overall, while Ethiopia has attractions for tourists, potential visitors should be aware of the security situation and consider their safety when planning their trip.
