Ethiopia offers a compelling mix of rich culture and historical sites, making it an appealing option for some Belgian travelers. With 8.6 million Belgians traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Ethiopia's diverse tourism experiences in culture, adventure, and business to be of interest.
Ethiopia presents a different safety landscape for tourists compared to Belgium. While Belgium ranks 16th in the Global Peace Index and has a low murder rate of 1.1 per 100,000 people, Ethiopia ranks 142nd out of 160 countries with a significantly higher murder rate of 8.8 per 100,000 people. In terms of organized crime, Belgium generally fares better, with lower indices across various categories compared to Ethiopia. For instance, Belgium's crime networks score 4.5, while Ethiopia's score is 6.5. Additionally, the presence of mafia groups is rated at 3.0 in Belgium, compared to 2.0 in Ethiopia, indicating a higher level of organized crime in Ethiopia. Overall, while tourists from Belgium can visit Ethiopia, they should be aware of the higher crime rates and potential safety concerns. It is advisable to stay informed and take necessary precautions while traveling.
