Egypt remains an appealing destination for many Sudanese visitors due to its rich history and cultural significance. Despite recent fluctuations in its tourism sector, it continues to play a vital role in the economy and offers numerous opportunities for cultural exchange. A segment of Sudan's 47 million population finds Egypt particularly attractive for travel.
Egypt is generally considered safer for tourists compared to Sudan. According to the Global Peace Index, Egypt ranks 103rd out of 160 countries, while Sudan is much lower at 159th. In terms of murder rates, Egypt has a rate of 2.6 per 100,000 people, significantly lower than Sudan's rate of 5.1. Furthermore, the Global Organized Crime Index indicates that Egypt has lower scores in several crime categories compared to Sudan, suggesting less organized crime activity. For example, Egypt scores 3.0 for mafia groups, while Sudan scores 6.5. Overall, while no destination is without risk, tourists from Sudan may find Egypt to be a relatively safer option.
