Egypt is an appealing destination for some Mozambicans, given its rich history and cultural significance. Despite recent fluctuations in its tourism sector, Egypt remains a key part of its economy and offers opportunities for cultural exchange that could attract a segment of Mozambique's 33 million population.
Egypt is relatively safe for tourists, including those coming from Mozambique. According to the Global Peace Index, Egypt ranks 103rd out of 160 countries, while Mozambique is slightly lower at 106th. In terms of murder rates, Egypt has a rate of 2.6 per 100,000 people, compared to Mozambique's 3.5. When looking at organized crime, Egypt generally shows better indices than Mozambique in several areas, such as mafia groups (3.0 vs. 3.5) and the cocaine trade (2.0 vs. 3.5). However, Mozambique has higher indices in state crime (9.0 vs. 8.0) and crime networks (8.0 vs. 5.5). Overall, both countries have their challenges, but Egypt is comparable in safety to Mozambique and may offer a secure environment for tourists.
