Egypt is an appealing destination for many travelers, including a segment of the 800,000 Jordanians who travel abroad annually. Its rich history and cultural significance make it an attractive option for those seeking unique experiences.
Egypt's safety for tourists compared to Jordan presents some concerns. According to the Global Peace Index, Egypt ranks 103rd out of 160 countries, while Jordan is ranked 65th, indicating that Jordan is generally considered safer. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Egypt is 2.6 per 100,000 people, higher than Jordan's rate of 1.0. Female murder rates are similar, with Jordan at 0.6 and Egypt at 0.5. The Global Organized Crime Index also reflects higher crime risks in Egypt, with various indices showing that Jordan generally fares better across categories such as mafia groups, crime networks, and state crime. For example, mafia groups score 1.5 in Jordan compared to 3.0 in Egypt, and state crime scores 6.5 in Jordan versus 8.0 in Egypt. Overall, while Egypt is a popular tourist destination, it is advisable for travelers from Jordan to stay informed about safety conditions and exercise caution.
