The Dominican Republic is an appealing destination for some of Vietnam's 98 million residents, thanks to its rich natural beauty and cultural heritage. The country's strong tourism sector plays a vital role in its economy and international relations, attracting millions of visitors each year.
The Dominican Republic has a higher crime rate compared to Vietnam, making it relatively less safe for tourists. According to the Global Peace Index, the Dominican Republic ranks 95th out of 160 countries, while Vietnam ranks 41st. The murder rate in the Dominican Republic is notably higher at 10.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Vietnam's 1.5. In terms of organized crime, both countries have their challenges, but Vietnam generally scores better in various categories. For example, the Dominican Republic has a lower score for mafia groups (5.0) and crime networks (5.5) compared to Vietnam's scores of 6.0 and 7.0, respectively. Overall, while many tourists visit the Dominican Republic without issues, travelers from Vietnam should be aware of the higher crime rates and take necessary precautions.
