Cyprus, located in the Mediterranean, offers a rich cultural heritage and serves as a key point for international travel. It could appeal to a segment of the population from São Tomé and Príncipe, making it a potentially attractive destination for some visitors.
Cyprus is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from São Tomé and Príncipe. It ranks 11th out of 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night. According to the Global Peace Index, it is ranked 86th among 160 countries worldwide. In terms of crime statistics, Cyprus has a lower murder rate of 1.3 per 100,000 people compared to São Tomé and Príncipe's rate of 3.3. While both countries face challenges with organized crime, Cyprus has higher scores in areas such as crime networks and human trafficking, indicating a more significant presence of these issues compared to São Tomé and Príncipe. Overall, tourists from São Tomé and Príncipe can expect a relatively safe experience in Cyprus, although they should remain aware of their surroundings, as they would in any travel destination.
