Cyprus, located in the Mediterranean, offers a unique blend of cultural heritage and strategic geography, making it an appealing destination for some Malagasy travelers. Given Madagascar's population of 30 million, a segment of this population may find Cyprus an interesting option for tourism and cultural exchange.
Cyprus is generally considered safe for tourists, including those from Madagascar. It ranks 11th among 40 European countries for safety while walking alone at night. However, according to the Global Peace Index, Cyprus is ranked 86th out of 160 countries, which is less favorable compared to Madagascar's 43rd position. In terms of crime statistics, Cyprus has a low murder rate of 1.3 per 100,000 people, while specific data for Madagascar is not available. The Global Organized Crime Index shows that Cyprus has lower scores for organized crime compared to Madagascar, particularly in areas like arms trafficking and resource crime. Overall, while Cyprus may not be as peaceful as Madagascar according to some metrics, it remains a relatively safe destination for tourists.
