Cuba offers a unique mix of cultural heritage and natural beauty, making it an appealing destination for many Mexican travelers. Its colonial architecture, vibrant salsa music, and beautiful beaches contribute to its charm. With 7.3 million Mexicans traveling abroad annually, a portion may find Cuba an attractive option despite recent challenges in its tourism sector.
Cuba is generally considered safer for tourists compared to Mexico. According to the Global Peace Index, Cuba ranks 96th out of 160 countries, while Mexico ranks 136th. The murder rate in Cuba is significantly lower, at 5.0 per 100,000 people, compared to Mexico's 28.2. Additionally, various crime indices indicate that organized crime and related activities are less prevalent in Cuba. For example, the mafia groups index rates Cuba at 4.0, while Mexico scores 9.0. Overall, while no destination is without risks, Cuba offers a safer environment for tourists coming from Mexico.
