Colombia is an appealing destination for Turkish travelers, known for its vibrant culture and beautiful landscapes. With around 2.2 million foreign visitors each year, it holds a significant place in global tourism. Among the 2.7 million Turks who travel abroad annually, a portion may find Colombia's diverse attractions enticing.
Colombia presents certain safety challenges for tourists, including those from Türkiye. While Türkiye ranks 31st out of 40 European countries for safety when walking alone at night, Colombia ranks significantly lower in the Global Peace Index at 143rd out of 160 countries, compared to Türkiye's 137th position. Crime statistics further highlight these safety concerns. The murder rate in Colombia is notably higher at 27.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Türkiye's 2.5. Additionally, female murder rates are also higher in Colombia (4.1) versus Türkiye (1.0). In terms of organized crime, Colombia scores worse than Türkiye across several indices. For example, Colombia has a mafia groups index of 9.5 (with 10 being the worst), while Türkiye is at 8.0. Similar trends are observed in crime networks, human trafficking, and drug-related crimes, where Colombia generally has higher scores indicating more severe issues. Overall, while many tourists visit Colombia without incident, it's crucial for travelers to remain vigilant and informed about their surroundings, as safety conditions differ significantly from those in Türkiye.
