Colombia is an appealing destination for some Thai travelers, thanks to its vibrant culture and breathtaking landscapes. With around 2.2 million foreign visitors each year, it holds a significant place in global tourism. Given that 10.4 million Thais travel abroad annually, a portion may find Colombia's diverse attractions worth exploring.
Colombia's safety for tourists, including those from Thailand, is a concern based on various crime statistics. According to the Global Peace Index, Colombia ranks 143rd out of 160 countries, significantly lower than Thailand, which ranks 73rd. The murder rate in Colombia is notably higher at 27.5 per 100,000 people, compared to Thailand's 4.9. Additionally, the Global Organized Crime Index reveals that Colombia faces severe challenges with organized crime, scoring 9.5 for mafia groups and 9.0 for crime networks, while Thailand scores much better at 1.5 and 5.0, respectively. Other crime-related indices also indicate higher risks in Colombia, particularly in drug trafficking and resource crime. In summary, while many tourists visit Colombia safely, it is essential for travelers from Thailand to be aware of these safety concerns and take necessary precautions.
