Head of mission: Mr. Dejan Čakajac, Honorary Consul (confirmed in the diplomatic list of Serbia, 24 Oct 2024)
Colombia is an appealing destination for some of Serbia's 7 million residents, thanks to its vibrant culture and breathtaking landscapes. The country attracts around 2.2 million foreign visitors each year, highlighting its diverse tourism offerings and global appeal.
Colombia's safety for tourists, including those from Serbia, presents some concerns. While Serbia ranks 13th in safety among European countries for walking alone at night, Colombia is ranked 143rd out of 160 countries in the Global Peace Index, indicating a significantly higher risk. Crime statistics highlight this disparity: Serbia has a murder rate of 1.1 per 100,000 people, compared to Colombia's 27.5. Additionally, the rates of female murders are 0.7 in Serbia versus 4.1 in Colombia. The Global Organized Crime Index also reflects higher crime risks in Colombia, with scores indicating more severe issues related to mafia groups, crime networks, and drug trafficking compared to Serbia. For instance, Colombia scores 9.5 for cocaine trade, while Serbia scores 5.5. Overall, while many tourists visit Colombia safely, it is essential for travelers to remain vigilant and informed about local conditions and safety measures.
