Colombia is an appealing destination for Indian travelers, known for its vibrant culture and beautiful landscapes. With around 2.2 million foreign visitors each year, it holds a significant place in global tourism. Given that 8.6 million Indians travel abroad annually, a portion may find Colombia's diverse attractions worth exploring.
Colombia presents certain safety concerns for tourists, including those from India. According to the Global Peace Index, Colombia ranks 143rd out of 160 countries, which is lower than India's rank of 114th. In terms of crime statistics, the murder rate in Colombia is significantly higher, at 27.5 per 100,000 people, compared to India's rate of 2.9. Additionally, female murder rates are also higher in Colombia (4.1) than in India (2.5). The Global Organized Crime Index further highlights challenges in Colombia, with high scores indicating serious issues: mafia groups (9.5), crime networks (9.0), and drug-related crimes, particularly cocaine (9.5). In contrast, India's scores are generally lower, indicating a relatively safer environment. Overall, while many tourists visit Colombia successfully, it is advisable for travelers to exercise caution, stay informed about their surroundings, and follow local safety guidelines.
